Acronym: LIFE_Together_for_1.5

Implementation Period: September 1, 2023 – August 31, 2025

Funding Source: European Commission (60%) under the LIFE financial instrument and the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management.

Project Description:

According to the latest scientific research, despite the EU’s increased climate and energy targets, it is still falling short of achieving the 1.5°C goal outlined in the Paris Agreement. The LIFE TogetherFor1.5 project aims to align EU climate actions with the 1.5°C target of the Paris Agreement. This will be achieved by leveraging opportunities for revising climate and energy policies provided by the Fit for 55 package, National Energy and Climate Plans (NECPs), and national long-term strategies during the project period (September 2022 – August 2025). Additionally, the project seeks to enhance public support for climate action by showcasing its social and economic benefits.

The project was developed by 13 European civil society organizations and CAN-Europe (the leading climate NGO coalition in Europe). Initially, the project will focus on raising awareness about the shared benefits of climate action to assist policymakers in making informed decisions while finalizing the Fit for 55 Package.

Subsequently, the project will:

  • Review National Energy and Climate Plans (NECPs) between 2023–2024, promoting ambitious targets, policies, measures, and public participation.
  • Monitor the implementation of NECPs to identify policy opportunities and gaps that can be addressed in future revisions.
  • Track the development of the 2040 climate target proposal, as well as potential revisions of national long-term strategies.

The project will achieve its objectives through:

  1. Monitoring and evaluating policy documents and processes.
  2. Engagement and dialogue with decision-makers.
  3. Capacity building for civil society organizations and other stakeholders.
  4. Raising public awareness on climate action.
